Location: Center School, Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, Whisconier Middle School, Brookfield High School
Today we started our first adventure through memory lane as we visited all of our schools from the Brookfield Public School System. The first school I went to as a Brookfield student was Center School. Center School is for kindergarteners and first graders only. I loved this school for many reasons. It was my first time taking a bus to school. It was the first time I got to experience a full day of school. It was a time where I could truly experience being somewhat on my own. My favorite memory from Center School was the 100 day celebration. On the 100th day of school in first grade we had to bring in something that consisted of 100 things. I decided to make an igloo with snowmen and houses made out of 100 marshmallows. It was truly a memory I will never forget.
The next school I attended was Huckleberry Hill for grades two through four. Huckleberry holds many of my favorite memories of all time. Second grade was probably the best year ever. I had Ms. Russo as my teacher and the class was full of all my friends. I remember it being the best class ever. The next two years at this school were nothing compared to second grade, but they were still pretty fun. I was able to be a play-day helper for play-day at the end of the year. This was awesome because everyone that wasn't a helper was totally jealous. I was also able to help out in gym classes during the gymnastics unit. Basically I was able to skip class as a third and fourth grader to help clean up the gym, which I was super excited about.
Whisconier Middle School was the school where everyone's awkward stages happened. It contained the years of braces, Hollister clothing, countless picniked photos, and the classic duck face and peace sign in every photo. Fifth grade was the first time we had to start changing for gym class and boy was that a weird time. I remember being so nervous to change because I thought everyone would judge me, but really no one cared because we were all so nervous. I don't really have any distinct memories from sixth grade so that means it must've just flown by. The memory from seventh grade that really stands out for me is the dreaded whale watch from Boston. We took a class trip to Boston, MA (well really Plymouth) and the first thing we did was go on a whale watch. Of course the day we chose had super choppy water and nearly everyone got sick. It was a time where everyone in our grade bonded over vomit or over not getting sick, aka fun times. Eighth grade was probably one of my favorite grades. I felt on top of the world when I walked through the halls. My friends and I would hang out so much and take such fun photos whenever we did. It was just an overall great time.
Our last stop is good ole Brookfield High School. BHS has treated me pretty well. I won three state titles here with dance team. I was able to perform at football games and basketball games, and even the occasional soccer or field hockey game. It felt awesome walking through the halls as a freshman and knowing upperclassmen because of dance. Looking back at freshman year I have no idea what I was doing when it came to grades because those were god awful compared to my other years. As I went through high school my friend group had definitely changed around. They always say that you walk into high school with different people than you'll walk out with and I could not agree more. High school sure as heck had its ups and downs but it's been a pretty good ride and I'm glad I went through it all at BHS.
